Welcome back to the Pyramid faithful readers! Today's interview is a special one. Several weeks ago I got to interview Chris Hockman at Corinthians FC in San Antonio. Now, I normally put interviews out on Thursday's, but since Corinthians is playing NXT Rayados in the US Open Cup tonight, I wanted to treat everyone and get this out a day early. Check it out. "After all, how many times do high school friends with working class incomes get to buy a sports team in their 20s?" Today's interview is brought to you by SoccerElf.com. SoccerElf.com is a brand new website dedicated to helping people all across the United States find the nearest pick up game. If you can't find one near you, guess what? You can create one. Right now, it's still the early stages, so AP has partnered with them to help get the word out, get more people on the site, and get more games going everywhere! The more chances to play, the more people will play. And the more people who play, the more the game grows.
Welcome, once again, to American Pyramid! In case you haven't noticed, I'm not very good with intros. But I'm working on it. Big news before we dive in, I will be appearing on the Soccer Nomad podcast with Austin Long in the next couple of weeks to talk about what these interviews have shown me about the workings of soccer at the lower levels. It's going to be a lot of fun, and should make for some interesting reading. I will pull no punches. Now let's get to it. Today's interview is with Nick Mendola of FC Buffalo, who play in the National Premier Soccer League. Thanks to issues with Twitter, this might have been one of the most difficult to finish interviews, simply due to neither one of us knowing when the other replied at certain times throughout the interview. But we made it work, and now it's ready for your reading pleasure. Check it out. "You earn fans outside of your city by winning trophies, being the best and fans respecting what you are doing with your club, the way its being built."
Welcome back to the Pyramid ladies and gentlemen! I've got an exciting interview for you to read today, but first, some catch up. Major League Soccer started this weekend, and had it's highest scoring opening ever with something like 30+ goals. The only team to get a shut out? Sporting Kansas City. That's right, my cities team still remembers how to play some defense! This week's interview is with David Satterwhite of the Dayton Dynamo. This is an interesting guy to have talked to. To start with, Dayton may be playing it's first season, but it's not it's first year as a club, which David will explain in a little more detail. Even the lower levels aren't immune to teams moving around. The positive of the move though? They've already topped all of last year in terms of revenue. Big things should be happening in Dayton this year. Check it out. Welcome back to American Pyramid ladies and gentlemen! I'm proud to be putting this interview out, as it bears the distinction of being the first interview ever done entirely over the phone! So if you happen to run a team and you're reading this, there's another avenue to get one of these interviews done for your team. Also, congratulations to everyone who voted for Nashville FC on the poll and made sure it would be released after the Milwaukee Bavarians interview from last week, and before the upcoming Harpo's FC and Burlingame Dragons interviews.
Chris Jones was gracious enough to take 30 minutes out of his day to do all this with me, and it strikes a great balance of length and detail, covering a wide variety of topics about the team, and about what fans looking to start a team should do first. Check it out. |
