Hello everyone, and welcome back to AP! Exciting things are happening in the soccer world this week. Liverpool moving on in the Champions League while Tottenham get shocked. CONCACAF announces it's own Nations League, which should do wonders for small countries like Cuba, Haiti, Puerto Rico and Curacao. And of course, the first ever AP interview with a team in Alaska! First, I want to say thank you to Icarus FC for becoming not only our latest Patron, but for also offering their services at discount for everyone who reads AP! Keep an eye out too, as we'll be featuring some of Icarus FC's work, along with design themed concept articles. Now, I heard about Skagway FC thanks to the fine folks at Northwest Soccer News. Skagway FC is a little different from what we normally cover. Not only is it a team, but it's a co-ed organization that also runs the Skagway Shield, which you'll learn more about in the interview. There are also some sweet pictures showing soccer fields in Alaska that you'll have to see. Check it out by clicking Read More. Hello again and welcome back to AP! Got a couple of things to get out of the away before diving into today's interview. First, I started another blog covering sports in general, called Ramble Sport. I'm writing about all kinds of things. For example, my first article was on college football, the second is on Fixing The NBA Playoffs. Keep an eye on it, as I'll be diving into American rugby soon. Second, we're getting really, really close to meeting the first Patreon goal. Right now, we have 7 of the 10 Patrons needed to bring back the AP National and Regional Power Rankings. With only three more Patrons, they'll be coming back this spring! And soon, as in, the next week or two, there is going to be Patron exclusive content coming out, and you want to miss it. Now, Max Fowler is doing some really cool and interesting stuff at Athletic Club of Sloan's Lake. He's working to build a community institution that includes multiple sports, not just soccer. Fair warning, this is a long interview, but is really going to be worth your time. Some of the things Max is doing with ACSL are strategies that every club in the lower leagues of American soccer should be trying to do. So without further ado, read on about Max Fowler and Athletic Club of Sloan's Lake. Check it out. "At this level it’s about the community and not money." AP is now on Patreon! Good morning AP readers! The weather outside in most of the country is nasty, so it's a perfect day for reading today's new interview. I was fortunate to connect with Jonathan Collura, one of the men behind Bugeaters FC, a future rival of Santa Fe Wanderers, and got to ask him some questions about the team and what he hopes to accomplish with it. Turns out, Jonathan has a long history with soccer in England that is shaping what he's doing here. A lot of good nuggets in here for you to enjoy. Check it out. Hello again, and welcome back to AP! At the start of the week, I was really torn about what interview to release this week, whether this one, or my interview with Northern Virginia United. After posing the question on Facebook and Twitter, Madison Dragons SC, a club from Rexburg, Idaho, swamped the Facebook post with comments and won out! I'm trying to even remember how I heard about these guys. They might actually popped on Facebook as one of those 'Like' suggestions. Regardless, I was able to connect with the club and make an interview happen. Needless to say things are different for soccer in this part of the country. Unique challenges, lower participation, and also surprising opportunities. Check it out. |
