Hello again readers! Thanks to the Twitter poll conducted earlier this month, I am releasing an interview selected by you, the readers, as the third interview for the month of January. See what you're missing if you aren't following AP on Twitter? Stop reading and go follow us. Then come back and read the interview.
Now, Nick Surface graciously agreed to do this interview with me back before Christmas, but thanks to the overwhelming responses to interview requests among the awesome community that is lower level American soccer, I'm just now able to release it. Check it out. Welcome to the Pyramid, and our first article of 2016! Before we go any further, let us pause and consider the madness of professional soccer in the modern day. Rafa Benetiz, he who has a record of 17 wins, 5 draws and 3 losses, with a team 4 points off the lead, has been fired. Rumors are swirling of Louis Van Gaal being fired and replaced by Jose Mourinho, himself fired earlier this winter. Silly season is truly upon us.
Now, this weeks interview was a surprise. After the interview with the Milwaukee Barons a couple of weeks ago, Andreas Davi of the Milwaukee Torrent reached out to me and we spent New Years Eve doing a rolling interview, covering some German soccer, the American Soccer League 2, and what the plan is for soccer in Milwaukee. Check it out below. Welcome back to the Pyramid ladies and Gentlemen! The Portland Timbers are your MLS Champions, meaning all championships in the United States have been decided. PDL Champs, KW United. NPSL Champs, NY Cosmos B. USL Champs, Rochester Rhinos. NASL Champs, NY Cosmos. US Open Cup Champs, Sporting KC. MLS Supporters Shield Winners, New York Red Bulls. MLS Cup Champs, Portland Timbers. New York state just missed out on winning every single major soccer trophy in the US this year. What a year that would have been in New York soccer history.
Now, I'm really excited to be able to share this interview with you. I've been following soccer for years, often times probably far too closely for my own good, but hey, it's how I am where I am now. Chattanooga is a team I've been watching since it's beginning, and it's been a truly fascinating journey to watch. These guys have averaged several thousand fans a game, and when they hosted the NPSL Championship game, packed the house with 18,000+ This interview with Tim Kelly was fun to do and incredibly insightful. He was even gracious enough to 7 points worth of advice for people looking to start their own teams. Check it all out after the break. Welcome back to the Pyramid faithful readers! This interview is getting released a full week and a half in advance, thanks not only to the amount of positive feedback we are getting from teams when it comes to interview requests, but also due to the interest among some of my readers in this particular interview. Now, Matt Roberts is the President and CEO of Grand Rapids FC, a team out of Michigan that took the American soccer scene by storm this year when they surprised everyone, including themselves, when they averaged 4,000+ fans a game over the course of the season. Without further ado, I present an interview with Matt Roberts, after the break.
